THE MUSEUM OF LOSS AND RENEWAL is an art project that offers Residencies in Molise, Italy and the Orkney Islands, Scotland.

The Individual Residency Programme (Italy) and Group Residency Programmes (Italy and Scotland) provide space and contexts for making and sharing, nurtured by artists and curators Tracy Mackenna & Edwin Janssen.

Rather than being a museum in the traditional sense that accumulates ‘stuff’, The Museum of Loss and Renewal stimulates people to take time in which to generate thoughts, feelings and ideas.

The Museum of Loss and Renewal is a growing collection of experiences that are regularly shared through the activities of its curators, partners and residents, and is a vehicle that enables the consideration of how to lead a more balanced life.

Maree Hensey, 2024 resident

An Individual Residency provides uninterrupted periods of time in the beautiful environment of Collemacchia in Italy’s Molise region, with no expectation of a final outcome. Whether you wish simply to be up close to your practice, allow nature to suffuse your thinking and feeling, produce new work or complete a project The Museum of Loss and Renewal does its utmost to ensure that you can achieve what you set out to do.

Applications are open to creative practitioners such as visual artists, film makers, writers, poets, performance artists, curators, designers, craft makers, musicians, theatre makers and researchers who work either individually or collaboratively.

We aim to communicate the outcome of your application within two weeks.

Residency periods are available between now and end of October 2024.
A minimum 2 week period can be requested, however for the full benefit of a period in residence, a minimum period of 3 weeks is recommended.

AIR, SEA AND SOIL
Group Residency Programme in Orkney

AIR, SEA AND SOIL is The Museum of Loss and Renewal’s Group Residency programme that takes place in Scotland’s Orkney Islands. It is a new partnership with the Pier Arts Centre, Stromness.

Each Group Residency takes place at the Pier Arts Centre’s residency facility Linkshouse, in the historic area of Birsay beside the Atlantic Ocean, and at sites of natural and archaeological importance in Orkney, accessible by foot and minibus.

Developed by The Museum of Loss and Renewal, often in partnership with an organisation or person of international repute, each Group Residency is individually designed to stimulate new ways of thinking and experimentation through production, research, co-learning and presentation.

Our Group Residencies are special gatherings that are based around particular themes. They offer participants a supportive, discursive environment for practice and research, exchange and co-learning. Residents become part of a multi-skilled, multi-disciplinary international peer-group.
